Only God Knows
“I realized that no one can discover everything God is doing under the sun. Not even the wisest people discover everything, no matter what they claim.”-Ecclesiastes 8:17
Let’s take a moment to consider some things that only God knows and fully understands. For example, only God knows the number of hairs on every person’s head (Lk. 12:7). Only God made all of the stars, knows how many exist (astronomers estimate there are about 200 sextillion - that’s a 2 followed by 23 zeros - in the observable universe), and calls them all by name (Ps. 147:4). Only God can merely speak a command and the clouds produce rain. Only God can make lightning appear as He instructs and strike as directed (Job 38:34-35). In wisdom, only God made all things, including countless creatures that fly, walk, and crawl (Ps. 104:24). Only God...we could go on and on with example after example.
God alone is God. And God is ever working, saving, shaping, changing lives, and doing what He alone can do. It’s really valuable that we know this and humbly accept it. GOD ALONE knows all that He is accomplishing from day to day! The truth is, His ways aren’t and won’t ever be fully understood by us. Scripture reminds us of this in a variety of ways. We are reminded in Deuteronomy 29:29, "The Lord our God has secrets known to no one...” Psalm 147:5 says, “How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!” We ought to all be humbled as we read in Romans 11:33, “Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His ways!” The point is, only God knows all things and does as He wishes in the way He wills. And His ways are beyond our complete comprehension.
Each day is a good day to acknowledge that there is One God. He knows everything about everything! Only He fully grasps all things. Only He knows ALL He's up to. When we humbly accept this truth, God's peace envelops us; we acknowledge that He alone is sovereign. He alone reigns. He alone is always up to something. And since we know He’s good (Ps. 34:8, Jn. 10:11), we can trust Him, always look to Him, worship Him, talk with Him, and rest in the assurance that ONLY GOD knows all. As Steven Curtis Chapman wisely put it in His great song, God Is God, “God is God and I am not. I can only see a part of the picture He’s painting. God is God and I am man. So I’ll never understand it all, for only God is God.”
Cheer up, friends!
