“Satisfy us each morning with Your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.”-Psalm 90:14
What comes to mind when you think of the word, SATISFACTION? How would you describe this notion? Merriam-Webster defines the word as "the fulfillment of a need or want." The Britannica dictionary defines satisfaction in more detail this way: “a happy or pleased feeling because of something that you did or something that happened to you.”
The truth is, everybody is looking for satisfaction. Or we could state it as, everyone is searching for happiness. All mankind longs to find fulfillment, to be truly happy. But if we aren’t careful, we can readily look for it in all the wrong places. Greg Laurie put it well when he said, “Many people today who are searching for happiness never will quite find it. As we look at celebrities with all their accomplishments, all their fame, and all their money, so many of them live miserable, empty lives. They’re searching for something in the wrong way. Happiness is a by-product of holiness. You get your life in order, and happiness soon will follow (Ps. 119:1-3).”
In Psalm 90:14, we read a request that Moses was led to pray. Moses cried out to God: “Satisfy us each morning with Your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.” What a powerful, insightful prayer! Moses went straight to The Source of satisfaction. He went to God in prayer and asked for fulfillment. Notice that Moses didn't just pray for his own needs, rather he asked God to “Satisfy us”. He wasn’t thinking of just himself; he was praying for others too. And He was asking God to fulfill them so that they might continue to praise Him all of their days. Moses wisely grasped that God alone can satisfy. When reflecting on Psalm 90:14, David Guzik commented, “Moses understood that true satisfaction was not rooted in money, fame, romance, pleasure, or success. It was satisfied with God’s mercy, His faithful, covenant goodness to His people.”
It’s absolutely true. What we need above all is God. He alone satisfies! He alone can fulfill our deepest needs. So let’s remember to run to Him daily, echoing what Moses prayed so many years ago: “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”
Cheer up, friends!
