Cheer Up! An encouraging word for the week

Cheer Up! Devotional

An encouraging word for the month.

“It is the Lord who created the stars, the Pleiades and Orion. He turns darkness into morning and day into night. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The Lord is His name!”-Amos 5:8

Some things are just flat-out good for us. For example, regular exercise is healthy for a variety of reasons. We know drinking enough water is essential for our bodies. Getting sufficient sleep is really beneficial. We know that reading is super important for our brains to continue developing and stay sharp. There are all kinds of healthy habits that are good for us physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. With this in mind, here’s a habit that's deeply profitable for our souls: We should often remember and acknowledge that God is The Creator of the universe. Is recognizing this truth a habit for you?

The Bible regularly reminds us of the vital truth that God is The Creator. Here are a handful of the many examples from Scripture:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”-Genesis 1:1

“The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.”-Psalm 33:6

“By wisdom the Lord founded the earth; by understanding He created the heavens.”-Proverbs 3:19

“God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out. He created the earth and everything in it. He gives breath to everyone, life to everyone who walks the earth.”-Isaiah 42:5

“God created everything through Him, and nothing was created except through Him.”-John 1:3

“For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and the sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”-Romans 1:20

“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For You created all things, and they exist because You created what You pleased.”-Revelation 4:11

There are many, many more passages in the Bible related to this truth. GOD CREATED IT ALL. Why is this truth mentioned so frequently in Scripture? What’s the big deal about this concept?

Let’s reflect on two reasons it is very healthy and important to regularly accept and acknowledge God as Creator. First, when we recognize that God is The Author of life, that He is The Architect of the cosmos, we are humbling ourselves. We are consciously admitting that we did not and could not do what God did. God spoke all creation into existence. God alone designed it all! That’s beyond impressive. Secondly, as we purposefully concede to the truth that God is Creator, we're declaring that God is supreme, that He reigns. We're admitting that The Great Engineer oversees everything, and He keeps it going. Only God can do this! I think of Romans 11:36: “For everything comes from Him and exists by His power and is intended for His glory. All glory to Him forever! Amen.”

May we often pause and ponder God as The Designer of all creation. Let’s repeatedly look up at the stars and marvel at His handiwork. Let’s frequently gaze at the ocean, a lake, a river, and be amazed at how God thought these up. Let’s regularly behold His creativity reflected in animals, in food, in trees, in… Who can create so many remarkable things? The Lord is His name!

Cheer up, friends!
