“My Father is always working, and so am I.”-John 5:17

Have you noticed how we all need breaks from our work? Whether we work a job or go to school, love our job or hate it, like our school work or despise it, either way, at some point we all stop our work activity each day. Why? We get tired. We need rest periodically. Not one of us has the capacity to always work. Nor should we always work, according to God. But let this sink in—GOD IS ALWAYS WORKING! He never grows weak or weary (Isaiah 40:28). Psalm 121:4 tells us, “Indeed, He who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.” God doesn’t get tired! He needs no rest. We know God did rest on the seventh day, He chose to rest, and He taught us the importance of a day of rest (Genesis 2:2-3). But He is always working. Always!

Reflecting on this truth about God, Henry Blackaby insightfully said, “Right now God is working all around you. Whether you see Him at work is irrelevant to the fact of God’s presence in the world. He is actively and intimately involved in both the affairs of this world and the details of your life.” It’s true. And Jesus clearly said so. Let’s reread John 5:17 which says: “My Father is always working, and so am I.” Ponder this truth for a moment. Let it marinate in your mind. There is never a time God is not active on His throne leading, overseeing, directing, guiding,…He is constantly on the move! We aren’t always able to see it. Nonetheless, we can depend on it, count on it, and be assured of this marvelous fact about God.

May this truth stabilize our souls today. God is always serving! He is ever working in our lives, around us, in people we care about, and in those with whom we may struggle. The Lord is active all over the world! He doesn’t give up or give in. He doesn’t cease ruling and reigning! Knowing and remembering this gives us great fortitude to keep our hope up. Acknowledging God this way brings composure to our spirit. David discovered this and declared in Psalm 29:10-11, “The Lord rules over the floodwaters. The Lord reigns as King forever. The Lord gives His people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.” God rules. God reigns. God gives us strength and peace as we remember He is always at work.

Lord, please help us to not forget that You are ever on the move, bringing honor to Your Name and help to Your people. Thank You for this. We put our trust in You. Give us eyes to see Your activity and join in. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!

Cheer Up, friends!
