“Praise the Lord! How good to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting!”-Psalm 147:1

Reflecting on praise and singing to God, Charles Spurgeon once wisely said, “Praise is the rehearsal of our eternal song. By grace we learn to sing and in glory we continue to sing.” What a powerful reminder, right? The Lord, who is loving, powerful, holy, kind, sovereign, merciful, ever reigning…is more than worthy of all the praise, now and forever!

One truly beautiful way we were created to praise God is through singing. Psalm 147:1 encourages the people of God to remember the praise He deserves and how good it is to sing praises to Him! To sing to God is delightful and fitting, always. Psalm 92:1 puts it this way, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High.” Again, we are reminded of what is good according to God: singing praises to God is good! We don’t all necessarily sound good singing, but it isn’t about how we sound. Singing to God is about Him! And, singing praise to God has a special way of engaging our mind and heart in worship to the Lord, who is ever deserving of the praise.

Singing praises to God now is really just a rehearsal of the eternal praise God deserves and will receive! So, let’s sing His praises regularly and joyfully when we gather together. Psalm 34:3 says, “Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt His name together.” Also, let’s sing thankful praises to God when we’re alone with Him. We all sound excellent in the shower and in our car with no one but God present. :) Guaranteed, God is pleased when we sing His praises in spirit and truth. Remember, God calls singing His praises good! Is that not good enough reason for us to often, with all we are, sing to Him?

So, as the Psalmist put it in Psalm 104:33, “I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath!” I’m in! How about you?

Godspeed, friends!
