“Do whatever He tells you.” -John 2:5
In John 2, we read about the first miracle Jesus performed in His earthly ministry. It happened at a wedding. Apparently, during the wedding party, they ran out of wine earlier than expected. Jesus’ mother, Mary, was concerned for the bride and groom’s party. So, she asked Jesus to help. Jesus’ response was to reiterate that His time had not yet come to be performing any miracles. Mary’s humble response was to tell those serving to, “Do whatever He tells you.” Great advice, right! Well, when we read the rest of the story, we see Jesus move in power, and with great kindness. He graciously turns water into wine and everyone at the party enjoys the finest wine ever served. Pretty cool! Mary’s words to the servants so long ago are truly wise words for us all to take to heart, daily. “Do whatever He tells you.”
All Jesus tells us is right! Everything Jesus speaks is absolutely the best. No one will guide us better, that’s guaranteed! Think about it, Jesus came to give us life to the full (John 10:10). Jesus has the words that give eternal life (John 6:68). He offers overflowing Joy (John 15:11). He gives peace that can’t be found in the world (John 14:27). Through Christ we see the remarkable love of God and receive eternal life we don’t deserve (John 3:16)! Jesus is the light of the world and because of Him we don’t have to walk in darkness anymore, but He offers the light that leads to life (John 8:12). Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6)! All this to say, above everyone, Jesus is so, so worth listening to and following with all we are.
So, let’s remember today, Jesus really does know best. Let’s listen to Him. Let’s follow Him. And by His grace, let’s, “Do whatever He tells us.” We won’t regret it.
Godspeed, friends!
